About the Project
Huître carried out the fit-out of Canalha with the aim of bringing a very specific concept to life: the authentic essence of a Lisbon tavern, without falling into pastiche. The design focused on materials as a language – the continuous pink Lioz counter, the marble tables, the wooden chairs and the ornate mirrors that expand the space and create a dynamic atmosphere for socialising. Every detail was designed to evoke Lisbon’s neighbourhood spirit while seamlessly integrating the technical precision of a professional haute cuisine kitchen.
Key Challenges
The installation of the continuous pink Lioz counter required high-precision craftsmanship – an element that visually defines the space and allows for no margin of error. The real challenge was to reconcile the heavy technical infrastructure of a professional kitchen – extraction, ventilation, specialised installations – with the aesthetics of a welcoming neighbourhood space, where none of this complexity should be visible.
